WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Our Testimonials

Doing things as a family is hard. Having an adult son with disabilities - it’s hard to find a place to do things together where people are not judging the fact that a 26 year old man is super excited to see Santa, or kids activities. At Nourish we can do that, and no one minds. It’s a family orientated, inclusive place for all of our family to enjoy things together.
Support user (parent)
Nourish has provided me with a safe haven, and a safe place to speak about any issues I have had in my personal life. I've always felt supported and cared for. My son has also had the support from the Nourish team. At a time he felt a little lost and would never find an interest of his own Nourish was there. He is now a member of the Meeples club, which he loves. He has made like minded friends who he can interact and talk to.
Support user (parent)
Nourish has been a massive support to my family for the past few years. Providing support, food parcels, support at Xmas. Putting on relax kids sessions. My daughter has even had the experience of volunteering which massively improved her confidence and well being which I will be forever grateful.

MEET MORE OF US
Lynne, Nourish Chief Exec
FOUNDER & CEO

Lynne Scott

Hi my name is Lynne, and I'm a parent of children with additional support needs.

Throughout the years myself and my family have faced many challenges, I have been that parent sitting at home feeling lonely and isolated feeling I had no one to turn to who would understand what I was going through. My children have had their own battles to face too, either having a disability, or having a sibling with a disability, both bring challenges.

I founded Nourish in 2011 with 4 other parents who felt there was a lack of support for families who had children with additional support needs in the Kirkcaldy area.

Leah has been a part of Nourish since our beginings. As daughter as one of our founding members and now CEO Lynne, Leah has been a pivotal part of our journey. From the age of 9, benefited from the services Nourish provided, meeting other children and young people who have a sibling with a disability.

Giving and recieving peer support, in a welcoming, freindly, supportive and safe space with people who simply "get it", is who we are, and what we do best. Leah has grown up with Nourish behind her, and given her time, knowledge and experience back to Nourish, supporting our growth and development over the years.

From being a service user, Leah began volunteering as a teenager, and eventually went onto gaining paid employment with Nourish as a Family Support Worker. When Nourish opened our Community Hub and Charity shop, Leah along with the wider Nourish team, supported the opening and running of the shop. Leah then applied for the position of Charity Shop Assistant Manager, and then over time was succesful in becoming the Manager.

Leah has enjoyed her time at Nourish, and has especially enjoyed her time over the last year with what she calls her "amazing team" at the Charity Shop, who she is going to miss, and will be missed by.

Leah has now taken the decision to move on from Nourish, discover herself and follow her dreams, and we wish her all the luck in the world. We are proud of her, and will of course miss her, but we are excited to see what comes next in her journey.

Thank you for all the time and support Leah, and good luck from everyone at Nourish.

Nourish Support Centre Raise Awareness for World Hand Hygiene Day May 5th

Nourish Support Centre working in collaboration with The Hygiene Bank are raising awareness of just how many families in our community are not able to do simple basic things such as wash their hands for world hand hygiene day.
Hygiene Poverty is a critical issue faced by many people living in poverty or experiencing crises. Nourish Support Centre provides much needed and life-changing support to families in Fife who have additional support needs. With lived experience of having children with additional support needs, those at the helm of Nourish Support Centre ensure that our services meet the needs of our service users. By speaking with families, and finding out where the gaps in support are, we ensure we deliver services that meet the needs of families with additional support needs in our community.
Several of our service users, through no fault of their own, face an inability to afford basic hygiene products which can lead to social isolation and have a negative impact on their health and wellbeing.
The lack of access to essentials like soap, shower gel, shampoo, and toilet paper can affect confidence, early childhood development, learning, employability, and social interaction. Nourish have taken the opportunity to come together with one of our partnerships working colleagues, The Hygiene Bank, to provide free hygiene packs; going a short way in making a difference within our local community.
Nourish’s Community Hub will have hygiene bags available on Monday 6th May to do their small part in raising awareness of World Hand Hygiene Day, whilst delivering much needed toiletries to our service users and wider community.
Monday 6th May 2024
Please pop in the Community Hub, Mercat Shopping Centre, Kirkcaldy from 10:30 to 13:00 to collect a hygiene pack if you need it!
